• Jarvis Tyner, Communist Party leader and lifelong activist,

It was an inspiring afternoon. Speakers gave hope to the assembly, urging them to continue the fight and unite people in a mass fightback— the only way to defeat Trumpism. Tyner called on the audience not to mourn, but to organize, paraphrasing the battle cry of labor songwriter and organizer, Joe Hill. He inspired and excited us with tales about his growing up poor in Philadelphia and how he discovered activism and socialism as he matured. We were entertained by a wonderful jazz group: The Red Microphone. Amini Barka, poet, and actor Vinie Burrows presented dramatic spoken word and People's World reporter Cameron Orr excited us with an awesome violin and digital musical performance. Delicious home-cooked food and beverages rounded out an uplifting and inspiring afternoon that will not soon be forgotten. The message we came away with was this: let's get out there, organize and fight because we're not going back!
