Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist)  > Politics > Working for Obama in Philly.
April 18, 2008

Along with friends, Ted and Jane, I drove to Philadelphia a few days in advance of the Primary election therre. Wanting to contribute to the exciting movement developing around the candidacy of Barack Obama, we spent the day canvassing the Germantown section of the City of rotherly Love. We knocked on close to 200 doors ina mostly African-American neighborhood and were warmly received with interest and excitement. We returned to New York at about 9 o'clock, tired but energized from doing our part in turning the country around.

Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist) > Spectacular old stone houses line the streets in Germantown, but the neighborhood is very poor, neglected by authorities and many of the houses are abandoned or in disrepair.
Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist) > After knocking on close to 100 doors, it was time for lunch. And if you're in Philly - well lunch might be a chees steak. This is one of Philadelphia's most popular steak joints: Dalessandro's on Henry Street.
Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist) > Jane don't do steak...so it's a chiken hoagie for her.
Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist) > If it doesn't taste like Dalessandros hoagies and steaks, then it's not!
Matthew Weinstein (bicyclist) > Teddy had difficulty in finishing the entire hoagie, but he did (and then regretted it the rest of the day).
