Some sixty Brooklynites braved a rainy Thursday night and flowed into the cavernous auditorium of P.S. 139 near Cortelyou Road in Flatbush.
They were called there by a new organization that's been established in the neighborhood: Flatbush For Peace. The evening featured an important new film, The End Of America, based on the NY Times best selling book of the same name, written by author Naomi Wolf. The film details the terrible damage to our constitution and civil liberties due to the actions of the Bush administration. The evenings co-sponsors were COPO (Council of People's Organizations) which serves the South Asian population of the community, HELP (Haitian Enlightemnet Literacy Project) and Brooklyn For Peace.
Wolf was a featured guest, and followed the film with a disucssion and question and answer session. Joining her on the podium was the Legal Director of the NYCLU (New York Civil Liberties Union), Arthur Eisenberg.
