Dani And Ethan Visit NY - Dec 09 : Erik had to get back to work. So he drove up from Hampton, VA with the family (and the dogs), spent a a couple of days and then, sadly, drove right back down again to Virginia. Dani and Ethan stayed with us for a week or so. We had a blast! We visited the Long Island family. We had a Chanukah party at our place and we plain out enjoyed being able to spend time with Dani and our delicious grandson. Thanksgiving - 2009 : Nov 27, 2009 Dani asked us a while ago to have Thanksgiving out on Long Island. She would come up with Erik and Ethan. Mike would be coming in and we'd have an old-fashioned Weinstein family reunion at Marlo and Malte's in Islip. Just like the old days. Well, it didn't quite turn out that way. Erik got called to duty on his Navy boat - that left Dani and Ethan (and the two dogs) stranded in Hampton, VA. However, Mike did come in and, despite numerous colds and flues, we drove out to Jess and Ed's house (the new, last minute venue for the holiday dinner due to illness at Marlo's). It was a lovely evening, despite all the obstacles. Marlo made the turkey; Jessie set a beautiful table, Stacey made soup, dressing and chocolate cake and everyone contributed something to a grand old family get-together. We missed Dani and her family but still had a nice time even in their absence. Here's some pictures I took in case you weren't there. - Matt Send me mail!

Max Turns One - And We Celebrate (Big Time!) : Nov 21, 2009 Hard to believe, but one year has passed since Corey and Alex gave birth to their little baby, Max. Ethan Turns Three - And We Vist To Enjoy The Festivities : Oct 16, 2009 Stacey just returned from Hampton, helping Dani with her sales at a local crafts fair. But Ethan would be celebrating his 3rd birthday on October 17th, so we packed the car and headed down to Hampton once again. A quick stop at Ellen and Brian's and a lunch with Cousin Dottie - and then the trip continued the next morning with the three additional hours to southern Virginia. A Summer Visit to Hampton : August 23, 2009. After a wedding on Stacey's side of the family (which took place in Maryland) we continued our vacation with a visit to Hampton and Dani, Erik and Ethan. We were last there in June but what a difference a couple of months make! Dani is pregnant and expecting another child in early April. This was an opportunity to cut her some slack - we would let her sleep later and take care of early-rising Ethan. Was that a chore? No way! It was a pleasure and we wanted more and more. He's a joy - a sweet, bright and articulate almost-three-year old. So here's your semi-monthly photo report on our grandson, Ethan. Dinner in Freeport On Nautical Mile : Jul 25, 2009 For the first time in many years, Lee and Alexis will not be joining us on our annual visit to Duba at her lake house in Ohio. We're sorry about that. To make for that, we met them half way (beween houses) in Freeport on the south shore of Long Island. That town has a "Nautical Mile" - a street (Woodcleft Street), adjacent to a canall, lined with fish markets, boat yards, busy and noisy bars with live bands and great restaurants. I took a few shots to give you the flavor. We had a lovely evening and a great dinner with an elevated view of the busy waterway and the sounds of music wafting up from down below. Alexis and Lee Visit Us : April 22, 2009 My brother and sister-in-law had been promising a visit to Brooklyn (their old home) for a long time. Finally, it came to fruition. They drove in from Bay Shore on a rainy April day and spent an afternoon and evening with us. First we went to the Brooklyn Museum which is only a few blocks away from our house. We saw a lovely show, From Paris To The Sea . by a French Impressionist, Gustave Caillebotte. Afterwards, we drove over to Red Hook so Lee and Lex could visit the grand Fairway market - with which they were duly impressed. On our way out, we stopped at their daughter Corey's place and we visited with her and new baby Max. In the evening, we had dinner at Ici, a French restaurant that we like very much on DeKalb Avenue. It was a lovely end to a lovely day. Here, then, some memories, in photographic form, of our day with Lee and Alexis.

Dani & Ethan Visit Us For A Week : Aug 24, 2008 We are very lucky indeed. We have visitors - Dani and Ethan came up for a week and we're having the time of our lives. Our little grandson has changed so much. I'm no longer one of four "Bombas" (Ethan's name for his grandparents). I've become Cam-pa' (as in "Grandpa"). The talking continues, non-stop. Words have become phrases. Phrases are becoming full sentences. I could go on and on but that would be boasting. Just take a look at some of these photos I took instead. - Matt

A Visit to Aunt Bea In Florida. : Jun 26, 2008 We had a wonderful visit with my Aunt Bea in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Flying down on Sunday and returning to New York on Thursday, we filled up five days with lots of family chats, good meals and just hanging out at the Schaffer home. Michael happened to be in Florida at the same time, working on a film, and is staying with Bea for the duration of his 3-week job. Sister Duba came down to join us, so we had a mini-family reunion which made it a very special few days. For Bea, who just lost her beloved Walter, husband of 71 years, it was a particularly uplifting and poignant family get-together. It was well worth the effort to spend time with my aunt: a remarkable woman, whose demeanor, agility and sharp mentality all belie her 92 years of age. We had a great time! - Matt

My Beautiful Cat, Pumpkin 1994 - Apr 28, 2008 : These are photos of my beautiful cat, Pumpkin. At age 14 she has developed tongue cancer. How did Pumpie come into our family? She appeared on the deck of our house in Manhattan Beach two days after one of our three cats died. Though we tried to find her owners it was (to our good fortune) to no avail and she became part of our family. She outlived the other two cats (who were much older) and now she, too, will leave us. That's the bad part. The good is the joy she has brought us over the years.

Thanksgiving 2007 : The family gathered, just as in olden days, for a Thanksgiving feast. But the location was Islip rather than Brooklyn and the house was Marlo and Malte's. A Walking Tour With Ilse and Peter : My nephew Kris and his wife, Mirjam, have given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Jona (after Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell). Living in Germany, they travelled back to the States so the rest of the family could meet and greet the latest Weinstein. They brought along Mirjam's parents, Ilse and Peter. Kris and Mirjam and Jona stayed at his former apartment in Harlem. Ilse and Mirjam stayed with us. Wanting to see New York and all its sights, Ilse had prepared a list (a long list) of sights she wanted to visit. We obliged, being the tour guides and NYC promoters that we are. Here then, photos of a long day's walking tour of lower Manhattan: across the Brooklyn Bridge and a stroll around City Hall park, St. Paul's Cathedral, Trinity Church, Battery Park and Chinatown. A Visit To Dani & Erik And Ethan At 8 Months. : Father's Day, 2007 - We travelled to the Lundberg mansion in Clifton Park to see our kids, Dani and Erik and our 8-month old grandson, Ethan. Even though just a few weeks had passed since our last viewing, Ethan had changed dramatically: on the cusp of crawling (albeit backwards), he is eating Cheerios and other additions to his diet. He also likes to make high, screeching noises and is trying to say "mama" but hasn't quite perfected that yet. Take a look at some photos of my little grand-boychik that I snapped.

A Super, Stupendous, Superb and Sublime Birthday Party! : June 24, 2007 - We drove out to Islip (again!...having just returned from the south shore of Long Island on our overnight trip to Fire Island). But it was worth it: we were there to celebrate 3 birthdays! Olivia Mosher had turned four. And Olivia and Luke had turned 7. And we remember when .... A Trip To Fire Island. : June 20, 2007 -- We took, last week, what's turning out to be an annual affair: a ferry ride to Fire Island for an overnight stay at Marlo and Malte's beautiful summer house on that barrier island off the south shore of Long Island. Lizzy and Cash Visit Us in Brooklyn - Apr 27 2007 : Our nice niece Lizzy visited us with her sweet baby boy: Jordan Cassius (everybody knows him as Cash). Husband, Shawn, was busy and couldn't join us. Almost one year old, Cash is walking now and demonstrated that skill for us. Quite impressive! We had a wonderful dinner (thanks, Stacey and Lizzy's nice friend, Bibi, came over and joined us. It was a memorable evening.

A Family Party At Our New Apartment : Nov 21, 2004 - The first time we had a bunch of people over. Bonus! It was Stacey's birthday also. Her family came over, including her Aunt Margie and Uncle Al, and cousins Steffi and Martine with theri spouses, Al and Rick. Also, Peter and Lori and Martine & Rick's son, Max. Food by Juniors. Despite worries about accommodating more than 6 people, it worked fine and we all had a pretty nice time. Check it out.

My cousin Susan visits New York. : It was September 28, 2004. A drenching rain, the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne, was pouring from heaven. We picked up Susan, my long lost cousin from Los Angeles at her Aunt Rosie's house on Caton Avenue and drove out to Bayside, Queens. Our goal? A family reunion, of sorts. Another cousin, Marlene, joined the party and we were off to the a restaurant, Villa Rustica, on Bell Bouevard. Here, a few shots from that evening. Also, a few photos from October 1st taken at Cafe Luluc (in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn) at lunch with Susan and her Aunt Rosie.
